East Valley Veterans Parade

The East Valley Veterans Parade honors Veterans, active military and their families with the celebration of their service and sacrifice. The parade is Wednesday, November 11th, 2015  at 11:00 a.m. and will begin at the intersection of Center St. and University Ave. The parade will travel south on Center St., turning west at the intersection of Center St. and 1st St. It will then continue west on 1st Street to Robson where it will end. This route offers wide, tree-lined streets for the entire length of the parade and will be easily accessible for all. The parade will begin promptly at 11:00am with many veteran and military themed entries. They anticipate as many as six high school bands in addition to historical military vehicles and local entries. A Pearl Harbor survivor and a former flight director of the Blue Angels have been selected as the grand marshals of the 2015 East Valley Veterans Parade.

Jack Holder was a Naval Flight Engineer and one of the most decorated World War II airmen. His decorations include two Distinguished Flying Cross Medals, six Air Medals, a Presidential Citation and six Commendation Medals.After Pearl Harbor, he flew missions all over the Pacific theater including the crucial victory at the Battle of Midway. Holder, who now lives in Sun Lakes, also fought in the European theater. He wrote about his experiences in a new book “Adrenaline Excitement and Fear – A WWII Naval Aviation Story.”

Retired Navy Rear Admiral Denny Wisely flew more than combat missions over Vietnam. He was commander and flight director of the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron in 1980 and 81. Among his other positions in the Navy were Director of Navy Liaison for the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs and Director of Operations at the Defense Nuclear Agency.Wisely, who retired from Navy in 1994 and later worked at Motorola in Scottsdale, received the Silver Star, six Legion of Merit Medals, two Distinguished Flying Cross Medals, 29 Air Medals and a Purple Heart.
